Manufacturer: Mappin & Webb Ltd. Production Date: 1919
Description: 'Montreal Ski Club Challenge Ski Jumping Championship' sterling silver trophy. Trophy was awarded to the best ski jumper of the Montreal ski club in the years 1932-42. Trophy has 2 c-shaped handles with various engraving and decorations on them. Stem of trophy is bent and is causing a lean in the trophy. Trophy has a circular black wooden base which has 11 metal crests around it with a name and dates. Base is not secured to trophy and is stored next to it.
Markings: Marked on the front of trophy is "M SKI C Challenge Trophy Presented by E.W.Beatty, Esq. for the Ski Jumping Championship of the Montreal Ski Club", marked on the underside of the silver trophy is "Mappin & Webb Ltd.", on other side of trophy opposite the inscription are 4 hallmarks, 1 is the maker's mark that says "M & W", the 2nd is of an uncrowned lion's head which represents the London Assay Office, the third is the body of a lion which represents being made in London, and the final hallmark is of the letter "D" which indicates that the trophy was made in 1919.
